The Local Take: Real Dads Read

Kenneth Braswell Reads

This week on The Local Take we speak with Kenneth Braswell from Fathers Incorporated about their new initiative REAL DADS READ. Research shows that when fathers participate in their children's education, helping with homework, their grades and test scores increase. Fathers play a critical role in the development of  literacy when they model the importance of reading and sharing stories.

Braswell points out that we have mp3 children living with 8-Track parents and that technology can be challenging.

Real Dads Read has formed a partnership with over 40 barbershops in the community to provide library books that can be checked out or read while you wait. Each barbershop is customizing their book club to meet the needs and wants or their clients.

The Real Dads Read program is launching at 10:00am on Saturday, March 11th at the Metropolitan Branch of the Atlanta Fulton Public Library. There will celebrity readers along with Dads reading.  Single mothers are also encouraged to bring their children.
