The Local Take Talks ABL Men of Influence Reception, Induction July 11
Saturday, July 8 at 7:00 a.m. on The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, I spoke with Quinnie Jenkins, Regional Leader for Community Affairs and Grassroots at Southwest Airlines, about the 11th Annual Atlanta Business League (ABL) Men of Influence Reception and Induction Ceremony. The ceremony takes place on Tuesday, July 11 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. Each year, the Atlanta Business League honors African American men business leaders and designate several to be "Men of Influence."
This annual event shines a spotlight on fifty of Atlanta’s influential Black men who are recognized during the evening for their achievements and contributions. These men have reached senior levels within their profession, are leading entrepreneurs in their industry, have accomplished history-making feats or have achieved broad levels of influence in politics and government. The Reverend Joseph Lowery, Dr. Louis Sullivan and Henry “Hank” Aaron are among the many great Black men of influence to have been honored by induction into the ABL Legends Hall of Fame.
Ms. Jenkins explains to our listeners why she thinks it is important to celebrate the men in our community. Overall nine gentlemen will receive awards including Clark Atlanta University President, Dr. Ronald A. Johnson. She goes on to encourage participants to bring young people so that they can see for themselves the great business leaders in our community.
She also mentions that the ABL will honor William "Bill" Taggert, posthumously. Other honorees include Samuel Cox from Citizen's Trust Bank, Theron Johnson a leader in the political arena and Mark Wilson a successful entrepreneur.
I ask Quinnie Jenkins to share with our listeners why she decided to chair this event and her feelings about the Atlanta Business League.
