The Local Take Features February 22-23 DuBois-King Symposium at CAU

Examining Race and Economic Inequality

This week on The Local Take I speak with Dr. Barbara Combs, Associate Professor of Sociology at Clark Atlanta University about the upcoming W. E. B. Du Bois annual symposium. The symposium is Feb. 22 - 23 at the Robert W. Woodruff Library at the Atlanta University Center.

This year the symposium theme is Examining Race and Economic Inequality on the 150th Anniversary of the birth of WEB Du Bois and the 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. the public is welcome to attend and can register here.

I ask Dr. Combs to explain what the study of sociology entails and why the average citizen should be interested in the academic undertakings of the symposium.  She explains that academia provides a base for the public to understand many of the challenges we face today.

Dr. Combs shares with us what W. E. B. Du Bois meant to the study of sociology and to the study of African Americans as well as his connection to Clark Atlanta University.

She also provides information about the panelists that will share their research and studies.
