The Local Take: Dr. Sharita Yazid Talks About Returning Home to Africa

Saturday, March 24 at 8:00 AM on The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, I'll explore a recent phenomenon of African Americans returning to the African continent.  I talked with Dr. Sharita Yazid about her repatriation to Ghana. She shares the mistakes people make when they move and how to do it the right way.  It is estimated that over 3,000 African Americans now reside in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Dr. Yazid shares that you should make more than one visit to determine if Ghana or another African country is really what you desire.  She explains that one visit through the tourist areas does not provide enough information to make the move over 8,000 miles to a different continent.

Dr. Yazid is trying to educate those looking to return so they can make a success of the move.  She says that many people move over and within a year they are back in the U.S.. Every other year, Dr. Yazid hosts the African Culture and Wellness Festivalin Ghana to talk about repatriation and how to do it successfully.  The next festival is scheduled for February 2019.
