Grammy-nominated, multi-instrumentalist, Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra Member, Ted Nash joins me Sunday, September 18 on Jazz Tones beginning at 3:00 p.m. Nash comes from a musical family. He is a composer, performer, arranger and educator. A Los Angeles native, his father Dick Nash and Uncle Ted Nash were both well known studio Jazz musicians. Ted started playing piano at age seven. By the time he turned 12 he had started playing clarinet, and a year later he picked up the alto sax. He moved to New York City at 18 and is best known for performing with The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. His credits for performance as well composing and arranging is reflected in a commission by that group, Portrait in Seven Shades, which was recorded by the orchestra. It was the first recording of original music devoted to an orchestra member other than Wynton Marsalis. In addition, Nash leads his own group and is a part of New York- based Jazz Composers Collective with Ben Allison, Frank Kimbrough and Michael Blake. The most recent release by Ted Nash is Presidential Suite which features eight variations on Freedom and is a creative musical take on history. Ted transforms key moments from historic speeches as read by influential figures from the worlds of arts, politics and sports into an emotionally affecting suite of modern Jazz. Tune into Jazz Tones on Sunday, September 18 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. to hear from Ted Nash and to hear more of his music.
