The 2025 tour of a Mamma Mia!-inspired burlesque style show Ohh Mamma! Stops at Atlanta’s Dome in the City on March 1st at 8PM. This enlightening production, promoting safer sex awareness stars RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season six winner, Georgia native Kylie Sonique Love, and former Prince dancer Sharon Ferguson. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is sponsoring this event.
Safe sex is needed in our city and community because HIV diagnoses are still rising. While HIV is no longer a death sentence, it means taking medicine regularly and your health is compromised. Joining me to speak about Safe Sex Saturday every Saturday this year and kicking off on March 1st is Imara Canady from the AHF and Sharon Ferguson from Ohh Mamma!! join us.
Canady begins by sharing that Georgia is now #1 in new HIV diagnoses. New cases are found with folks ages 12 - 70. This means conversations with young people about safe sex need to start sooner. It is heartbreaking that some young people are contracting HIV in their early sexual experiences.
Safe Sex Saturday is being promoted through the production of Ohh Mamma! Burlesque show and I asked Ferguson about the feel of the show. She speaks about the professional dancers who are participating and using comedy and art to get the message across that safe sex is great sex. Art is one way to move the needle on having needed conversations. Canady speaks about couples going together ala Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband Pennsylvania State Representative Vincent Hughes who went together to check their HIV Status while dating.
