We’ll be speaking about seniors all month in support of Older Americans Appreciation Month and our upcoming CAREGIVER Relax! Event taking place on Saturday, June 13th, at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center from 1-4PM. While our focus will be on providing community members with information about healthcare, insurance, and finances as over 11,000 people turn 65 everyday in the United States. The Local Take will have programming all month providing information on the challenges being faced by so many people.
As a caregiver myself I often remember that I can do this, but not alone. We will all need help. There are over 53 million unpaid caregivers in the United States, mostly women, and the only way we’ll actually get help is if we vote for the people who will help us.
We are in the midst of the midterm elections. These are the elections that matter and usually have the smallest turnout, besides the Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Labor, Agriculture, and Insurance Commissioner, there are two positions open on the Georgia Supreme Court. This is the court that upheld the states 6 week abortion ban that has already resulted in the death of women in our community. It is so important that you not only vote, but also make informed decisions that are going to impact your life every day. If you’re not currently registered to vote, please go register. There maybe run-off coming after the May 19th primary. If you are registered to vote, please make a plan, and if at all possible, vote early. 53 million people working as unpaid caregivers in the richest country in the world only happens because we don’t vote in our best interest. Vote in your best interest for today and for your sixty year old self.
