UPFRONT is celebrating #BlackMusicMonth and #PRIDE with two rising filmmakers.
We kick things off with Eliane Henri and her new documentary, HARGROVE. It is the first feature film on the life and music of iconic jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove, who passed away in November 2018. Eliane opens up about her film journey and its highly anticipated world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festivalin New York City.
Closing out the show is my conversation with Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Fr3der1ck Taylor. The multi-talented educator and activist is here to talk about his documentary, Meet the Team Taking J-Setting from Underground Clubs to the Main Stage. The film puts a spotlight on the LGBTQ dance craze that is inspired by HBCU dance squads and their flawless moves. He’ll also discuss his other film project about the Friendship 9, and his new TogetherATL Campaign.
