UPFRONT feat. 'TILL' Director Chinonye Chukwu & Naima Russell Carter aka 'Drama Mama Reads'

Check out this week's edition of UPFRONT/Inside Atlanta's Entertainment Industry.

We’re catching up with television and stage actress Naima Carter Russell to chat about her Drama Mama Reads initiative, which is aimed at helping our little ones see themselves in children’s books and literature. The cute and colorful vignettes feature Russell and her girls in various costumes all while promoting children's literacy and books from known and unknown BIPOC authors.

And in the second half of the show, we’re going behind-the-scenes of the epic new motion picture TILL, with director and writer Chinonye Chukwu. The Sundance Film Festival winner gives us another view of the Emmitt Till story as seen through the eyes of his mother Mamie Till. Chukwu also talks about shooting this film in Atlanta and casting Danielle Deadwyleras her leading lady.

TILL tells the true story of Mamie Till Mobley’s relentless pursuit of justice for her 14 year old son, Emmett Till, who, in 1955, was lynched while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. In Mamie’s poignant journey of grief turned to action, we see the universal power of a mother’s ability to change the world.

UPFRONT/Inside Atlanta's Entertainment Industry is hosted and produced by Ray Cornelius for Jazz 91.9 WCLK. It is also brought to you by The High Museum of Art.
