UPFRONT talks 'Something Moving' with Pearl Cleage and David Kote

UPFRONT/Inside the Entertainment Industry is teaming up with CAU TV-23 and the Alliance Theatre for a two-part television series on Pearl Cleage's new theatrical production Something Moving: A Meditation on Maynard.

The new play opens up August 3 for a limited-run on the Alliance Theatre's Hertz Stage. Something Moving, which was commission by DC's Ford Theatre, examines and commemorates Maynard Jackson's groundbreaking mayoral win of 1974 as Atlanta's first Black Mayor. Cleage served as Jackson's press secretary during his campaign and for two years as his Director of Communications. The show is directed by Suzi Bass Award winning director David Kote and features iconic Atlanta actor Tony Vaughn and Terry Burrell.

UPFRONT host—-Ray Cornelius—-sat down with Cleage and Kote a few weeks back to discuss the show and their hope of inspiring audiences to get out and vote this November.

You can listen to the audio version of the conversation with Cleage only on Saturday, July 27 at 9:30am on WCLK. 91.9 FM.

The two-part television series begins on Monday, July 29 at 8pm on CAU TV-23 and features Cleage and Kote along with rare archival videos and images of Maynard provided by the Kenan Research Center at the Atlanta History Center and the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library Archive Research Center.

The second part of the series will air on Monday, August 5 at 8pm on CAU TV-23 and features an exclusive interview with the former First Lady of Atlanta —-Mrs. Valerie Jackson.
