Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence

This week on The Local Take I talked with Alma Davis, founder of the Alma G. Davis Foundation, about their upcoming "Dinner For Divas" event in celebration of 150 Domestic Violence survivors.

This is the 10th anniversary of the dinner which is taking place on Saturday, June 8th at the Georgia Aquarium. I ask Ms. Davis why she decided to host an event for survivors.

Join us for The CheckUp with Dr. Courtney M. Shelton MD at a new time -- 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 3.   February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness And Prevention Month, and Dr. Shelton will be joined by Domestic Violence Prevention Advocate Kimya Motley of Haven of Light International, who has turned abuse in her life into a positive by becoming a voice for those who are violently and sexually abused. Did you know 1.5 million high school boys and girls in the US admit to being hit or physically harmed last year by someone they are romantically involved with?

Join Jazz 91.9 WCLK, Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 a.m. for Dr. Judi, The People's Advocate.  Social Worker Dr. Judi Crocker Billingsley will talk about the problem of deadly domestic violence in Atlanta and across Georgia.   She is joined by Jan Christiensen and Adrian Hamilton Butler with the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence (GCADV).  They will touch on a number of topics in a compelling conversation, including the organization's annual Fatality Review Project, an unfortunate by-product of their advocacy. More information about GCADV is available here.
