Christian Fabian Trio: Hip To The Skip

Christian Fabian

The Sweden born Christian Fabian decided to pursue a career in Jazz after meeting Dizzy Gillespie after a concert at age 12. He studied at the Berklee School of Music. Since graduating, he’s led various groups including the New Lionel Hampton Band and the Native Jazz Quartet. On his latest release Hip to the Skip, Fabian is joined by his frequent collaborator Jason Marsalis on drums and Matt King on keyboard. The album is a collection of new tunes and standards, all done in a jazz-funk fusion style. His version of Joe Zawinul’s classic Mercy, Mercy, Mercy stays close to the original with a little creative liberty. The title track Hip To The Skip is something you would expect to hear on the S.O.U.L of Jazz and features the Trio getting into a real groove. You’ll have a great time when you hear this coming through your radio or mobile device via the WCLK app.

David C Linton is WCLK's Program Director. Since assuming the position in 2018, he's led Jazz 91.9 WCLK to record-setting ratings and expanded its listening audience. Linton's expertise in both NPR & commercial radio has benefited WCLK. He views WCLK as more than an Atlanta institution but a global media outlet for Jazz. He reshuffled the Sunday Jazz offerings to provide a unique Mainstream Jazz listening experience on Sundays including the addition of Mainstream and Modern hosted by Rob Maynard. He also added Broadcast Hall of Famer Rick Joyner to the weekday line up as host of Serenade to the The City. He also programs WCLK's HD2 channel which offers Mainstream Jazz 24/7, available at wclk.com
