Ruben Caban releases his latest album Kangana which is nice blend of Jazz, soul and fusion which reflects the many influences of his career. Born on the island of Puerto Rico the trombonist has played with a diverse group of musicians and singers such as Frankie Valli, Arturo Sandoval, Dianne Shurr, Herbie Hancock, The O’Jays and the Sylistics. He was a part of Ed Calle’s 2015 Latin Grammy Award winning Ed Calle Presents Mamblue.

Rueben was educated at the University of North Florida, where he studied Jazz Trombone and Studio Performance before getting his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from Florida International University. He studied Jazz theory with Jazz greats such as Michael Orta, John Fedchock, Wycleff Gordon and Hancock.

On Kangana he’s enlisted the help of Roxana Ahmed (vocal) Ed Calle (tenor saxophone) Richard Bravo (Percussion) and other notables. Phat CRB and Kangana are tracks which immediately caught this programmer’s ears. But you can’t go wrong with any of the eight songs on this release. Keep your dial on Jazz 91.9 WCLK and you’ll get to hear these and other songs from Ruben Caban.
