WCLK Opening 1974

The dreams of then Clark College faculty members Charles Hobson and Dr. Gloria James, and the work of Engineer Cecil O'Neill and a predominantly student staff with help from Professional Program Director Quo Vadis came to life at noon on April 10, 1974 and WCLK was on the air at 91.9 on the non-commercial dial. After a minor technical glitch the station went live with Ramsey Lewis' version of Maiden Voyage. WCLK through the decades has represented Clark Atlanta University, and we've employed and trained generations of broadcasters and media professionals, won regional and national awards, and constantly played the broad sweep of Jazz music for our listeners in Atlanta and in the streaming era throughout the world. Happy Birthday! We couldn't do it without you, our listeners and members.
