Join us for the musical history of 50 years of Jazz on WCLK at Atlanta Symphony Hall on Friday night, May 24 at 8pm for the kickoff of the 2024 Atlanta Jazz Festival. Tickets are going fast, get yours here. This event is a partnership between the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, the musicians, and WCLK. Contemporary Jazz Legend(and CAU music professor) Phil Davis will be a part of the All Star Band. He stopped by Midday Jazz with Rivablue to talk to her about it.

The exhilarating 90-minute musical journey will highlight some of the most endearing jazz music from the 1930s through today. Classic songs like Maiden Voyage, I Got Rhythm, So What, and Take 5 will be juxtaposed by modern compositions Watermelon Man, Everybody Loves The Sunshine, Dominoes, and Rise.

All-Star Band members include The Senators: Phil Davis, Tres Gilbert and Derek Scott plus Rodney Edge, Miguel Gaetán, Joe Gransden, Jamel Mitchell, Mike Burton, Saunders Sermons, Daniel Wytanis, DJ Kemit, Mace Hibbbard, IAMKHEMESTRY and Joel Powell.

There will be special guest performances by Kathleen Bertrand, Cleveland P. Jones, Rhonda Thomas, Imani-Grace Cooper, Julie Dexter, Tony Hightower, Dashill Smith, and Alexandra Jackson. As the Narrator, Jon Goode will weave in stories about the history and legacy of WCLK. Melvin Jones serves as the event's Big Band Music Arranger. The event is Co-Produced by Jamal Ahmad, Lil John Roberts, and Ray Cornelius.
