WCLK Remembers Nikki Giovanni

In honor of the passing of literary icon, Nikki Giovanni, I wanted to remind everyone of the radio documentary Peace Be Still: Commemorating The 50th Anniversary of Nikki Giovanni's Truth Is On Its Way that was written, directed and produced by The Dangerfeel Newbies(Jamal Ahmad and Marquis Lofton) a few years ago. It seems much more topical now and tells the untold story of her seminal gospel release that changed the trajectory of popular music and was a huge inspiration to Aretha Franklin's Amazing Grace. It features some incredible perspectives from current poet laureate for the city of Detroit, Jessica Care Moore, ethnomusicologist at The Julliard School, Dr. Fredara Hadley, the legendary Nikki Giovanni and many more. It's a very essential documentary because there wasn't much source material online that covers this genre shifting release and she was so kind to tell us the story of this record.
