THURS., AUGUST 14: WCLK's The Local Take Present "Caregivers Relax!"

Across the United States, more than 53 million Americans serve as unpaid family caregivers, providing an estimated 34 billion hours of care each year—often at the expense of their own health, well-being, and financial security.

On August 14, WCLK’s The Local Take With Kiplyn Primus on Jazz 91.9 WCLK will host the inaugural “CAREGIVERS Relax!” event from 11am until 2pm at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center in DeKalb County. This FREE day-long gathering is designed to honor, pamper, and support caregivers, offering them a much-needed break and connection to essential community resources.

“Caregivers are the backbone of our healthcare system, yet they’re often overlooked and overwhelmed,” said Kiplyn Primus, host of WCLK’s The Local Take. “This event is a chance to recognize their contributions, provide them with resources, and give them a moment to breathe.”

Event Highlights Include:

  • On-site elder care for attendees’ loved ones during the event
  • Pampering services to support caregiver wellness
  • Resource connections from DeKalb County services and Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage
  • A special screening of the Bradley Cooper-produced documentary "CAREGIVING", which explores the emotional and physical toll of caregiving in America
  • A chance for caregivers to share their stories on the national Well Beings platform

Inspired by actor Bradley Cooper’s own experience caring for his father following a cancer diagnosis, the CAREGIVING documentary—produced with Public Broadcasting WETA—sheds light on the daily realities and resilience of America’s caregivers.

Leading up to the event, The Local Take With Kiplyn Primus will feature interviews with experts and caregivers every Saturday at 8 AM on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, offering insight into the challenges and victories of caregiving life.

“CAREGIVERS Relax!” is presented by Jazz 91.9 WCLK, Dekalb County, Kaiser-Permanente Senior Advantage, The Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority, Community Whole Health Clinic, and Academy of the Arts.
