CAU Art Museum presents 'Uncommon Nature: The Abstractions of Freddie Styles'

The Clark Atlanta University Art Museum is inviting art lovers and cultural enthusiasts to experience its powerful new exhibition, Uncommon Nature: The Abstractions of Freddie Styles, now on view through May 1, 2026. Located on the campus of Clark Atlanta University, the exhibit showcases the expressive abstract works of Georgia native and acclaimed artist Freddie Styles, whose career spans more than six decades.

Inspired by his lifelong connection to nature, Styles’ paintings and collages blur the lines between emotion and environment, creating layered abstract landscapes that evoke organic textures, vegetation, and the natural world. His distinctive artistic process incorporates unconventional materials such as crinkled fax paper and metallic inks, resulting in luminous works filled with depth, movement, and meaning.

A respected abstractionist and Atlanta University Center alum, Styles’ work reflects both personal history and cultural legacy, drawing influence from his experiences growing up in Georgia and his deep ties to the artistic and academic community. His artwork has been exhibited widely and is held in major public and private collections, further cementing his status as an important voice in contemporary abstract art.

Uncommon Nature offers visitors a chance to slow down, reflect, and engage with art that speaks beyond traditional form. Whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or simply curious, the exhibition provides a compelling and immersive cultural experience that highlights creativity, heritage, and the enduring power of artistic expression in Atlanta’s vibrant arts scene.
