Richard Wright's iconic novel, Native Son opens tonight at Marietta's New Theatre In The Square. This retelling of his 1940s classic was written by award winning actress and playwright Nambi E. Kelley and directed by Emil Thomas.
Native Son follows Bigger Thomas, a poor, uneducated youth who lives in Chicago in 1930s America. Growing up under harsh racial prejudice, 20-year-old Bigger is hopeless and believes that he has no control over his life. He struggles to find inner peace in a world whose prejudice has shut him out from opportunity. After experiencing real-life adversity, Bigger unleashes a series of events that violently seal his fate.
