Check out this past weekend's edition of UPFRONT Inside Atlanta's Entertainment Industry. It features Hamilton starlet Renée Elise Goldsberry, LGBTQ filmmaker Patrik Ian-Polk and Living Single actress Erika Alexander.
Broadway's smash musical Hamilton is available now on the Disney+ platform. The show is the story of American then, told by America now and features a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway. It is also a retelling of the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and features Lin Manuel Miranda, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr. and Renée Elise Goldsberry. I got a chance to chat with her as part of AAFCA's Virtual Roundtable Series and discussed her character, being part of the Disney brand and her participation in the recent letter to White American Theatre.
Iconic LGBTQ filmmaker Patrik Ian-Polk recently hosted a 15th anniversary celebration for his groundbreaking TV series Noah's ARC. The show is still the only television series to feature four Black gay male leads. I talked to Patrik during AAFCA's PRIDE Presents Series in June where he opened up about the inspiration behind the characters and more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2ZNLxgGuaY">CLICK here to watch the Noah's ARC reunion special and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wUx4FZsi6I">CLICK here and listen to our full conversation.
Closing out the show was my exclusive with Living Single actress Erika Alexander. She is one of the executive producers on Dawn Porter's new documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble. The film features never-before-seen footage of Lewis on the front lines of justice and equality. Erika opens up about participating with the project, her time spent with Mr. Lewis and why this film is so timely.
