COVID 19 is in our midst, which has changed the trajectory of how we communicate, work together and coalesce. Nicolac da Costa (2020) stated, “nationally the number of active business owners fell by 22% from Feb. to Apr. and nearly half of Black small businesses have been wiped out since April, which is disproportionate to all small businesses.” Nicolac da Costa also stated, "Black businesses experienced the most acute decline, with a 41% drop. Latinx business owners fell by 32% and Asian business owners dropped by 26% (forbes.com)." Furthermore, as the pandemic continues the decline of businesses are increasing with the Black owned business leading the pack. According to Adams (2020), there are 2.6 million Black owned businesses and of this number 2.5 million have no employees (marketplace.org). Any funding for small businesses provided due to COVID 19 was tied to businesses, which had employees. Not much funding went to 96% of Black owned businesses. Many Black owned businesses have no employees or may have one, who is the owner. In addition, businesses needed to have enough resources to open their doors and they needed to open according to CDC guidelines, which did not happen from COVID-19 funding for Black-owned small businesses. 2020 funding was not available to the majority of Black-owned small businesses.
