Jazz 91.9 WCLK - April 1974 - Our History On The Local Take

Boyd Lewis
WCLK On Air, April 1974 L-R Larry Alexander, Clarissa Myrick, Mario Lightfoote(at board), Reginald Mitchell

On the Saturday, March 12 edition of The Local Take we speak with the folks who were there at the beginning, 42 years ago, who helped to launch Jazz 91.9 WCLK.   Al Goggins, a student, actually began working on WCLK in 1973.  He explains how his position as a producer at the station put him, a freshman, in charge of upper classmen.   Donrita Hines speaks to the programming on her show and the playlist that still airs today on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.   Logan Kearse explains that he wasn't a communications major but was recruited to WCLK.

Stan Washington, a noted Atlanta journalist, began his career at WCLK where as a student he broke stories before major news outlets.  He credits this to WCLK being a community station from the start.  We also speak with Charles Hobson, who led the Clark Atlanta University Mass Media Arts Department when the station went on the air.  Hobson was also an advisor to then CAU President Henderson.

We round out our conversation with Jazz 91.9 WCLK's current General Manager Wendy Williams, who speaks to the foundation that was built and the future of WCLK.  Our history is being made daily and with your support as a member we will continue to bring the community the best in Jazz, Gospel and information.   Are you a Jazz 91.9 WCLK member yet?
