October 21: ITC Second Annual Global Transformers Gala

ITC Global Transformers

The October 15 edition of The Local Take on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK I caught up with Atlanta's renowned Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC).  ITC presents its Second Annual Global Transformers Gala on Friday, October 21, 7:00 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.  The theme this year is Women of Power, Faith and Action.

I spoke with Dr. Edward Wheeler about the upcoming event and the women who are being honored.  The women include:  Ms. Susan Taylor of ESSENCE Magazine; and,  Sister Simone Campbell who is renowned for her relentless demands for social justice for marginalized citizens. She is also noted for her famous “Nuns Letter” in support of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Dr. Deborah Prothrow-Stith aroused the conscience of the nation with her profound declaration that youth violence is a public health problem.  ITC’s own Dr. Jacquelyn Grant is recognized around the globe as the "Mother” of Womanist Theology, and Professor Emerita Dr. Anne Streaty Wimberly continues to inspire people across the nation through her scholarship and commitment to Christian Education.   And, through her advocacy for African-American youth.

Dr. Wheeler shares with us the history of Interdenominational Theological Center  and its mission and purpose.
