The Local Take Talks With Emory Healthy Aging and Emory Brain Health Centers

Saturday, June 17 at 7:00 a.m. on The Local Take on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK,  I speak with Dr. Aaron Anderson and Dr. Monica Parker from the Emory Healthy Aging and Emory Brain Health Centers. Dr. Aaron Anderson, Asst. Professor of Neurology at the Emory University College of Medicine speaks about healthy aging and using research to understand what factors can be intervened for better outcomes.

Dr. Monica Parker from the Emory Alzheimer's Research Center  speaks about the medical research being done at most of the educational research institutions in Atlanta including: Morehouse, Clark Atlanta University, Georgia Tech University as well as Emory University.   She encourages listeners to ask their primary care physicians about research available for any medical challenge that they may face.

Dr. Anderson speaks about the need for diverse candidates to participate in research.   He mentions that often the research involves a conversation, blood work, imaging and  on occasion a spinal tap.  Dr. Parker adds that participants can decide up front what they are willing to do and what they are not willing to do as a participant in any medical research.

I ask Dr. Anderson to share with listeners information about hypertension which can result in vascular dementia. Hypertension is considered the silent killer and is more prevalent in the African American community.

If you are interested in becoming a participant in the Emory Healthy Aging Study, email Healthy Aging or call her at 404-727-4877
