National HIV Testing Day - June 27th - Be Safe, Get Tested

Saturday morning at 7am on The Local Take on WCLK I talk with Russell Patterson of AID Atlanta about this year's National Testing Day on June 27th.Patterson explains that anyone with a sexual history should know their HIV status. He speaks to the circumstances that increase your risk of exposure to HIV, a major risk involves having sex with individuals who live in Atlanta. Atlanta is ranked in the top three areas for citizen who have HIV.

Russell mentions that people from age 11 to age 60 are testing positive for HIV. In the state of Georgia if you are aged 16 or older you can take an HIV test, additionally the test results are now returned in about 5 minutes. Today staying healthy with HIV is similar to staying healthy with diabetes. The old cocktail of pills is usually now one pill taken daily that can take your viral load down to "undetectable.

AID Atlanta will kick-off National HIV testing day on Saturday, June 24th at The Mall West End and host testing event each day culminating on June 27th with testing at $2.00 Tuesdays at Dugan's on Ponce de Leon.

If you are a sexually active human take a moment to learn your status no matter your relationship status.
