The CheckUp With Dr. Courtney Shelton MD--Heart Health, Ten Things You Can Do

Saturday morning at 7:30am on WCLK join us for The CheckUp with Dr. Courtney Shelton, MD. The CheckUp provides the community with useful health information you can use each day to lead a happier, healthier life. This week Dr. Shelton is joined by Cardiologist Dr. Michael Toca for a discussion about men's heart health. They'll talk about ED and how that is affected by your heart. They'll also discuss the daily changes you can make to keep your heart healthy for yourself and your loved ones.

Here is Dr. Toca's list of things your cardiologist wants you to to:

1. Have more sex.

2. Exercise at least 30 minutes 3 times a week.

3. Discuss any herbal or over the counter remedies with your doctor.

4. Obtain stress relief through exercise, meditation or prayer.

5. Use a phone or fit bit or Apple Watch to count how many steps you take each day.

6. Avoid all fast food/cook and eat at home.

7. If you have had a stroke or other cardiac event consider a plant-based diet.

8. Drink no more than one glass of wine(or other alcohol) a day.

9. Get checked for sleep apnea.

10. Take care of your teeth, see your dentist regularly.

11. Don't eat frequent fried foods, salt, or desserts. Eat more vegetables.

12. Count calories using apps, Weight Watchers or buy prepared meals.
