February 28: The Local Take Hosts PNC Bank Black History Month Program

PNC Bank Celebrates African-American Athletes

The Local Take will host PNC Bank Second  Annual Black History Month Breakfast on Wednesday, February 28 at 7:30 a.m. at the Center for Civil and Human Rights.  This year the focus is on African American Athletes who succeeded on and off the field of play. Throughout February you can hear daily vignettes from PNC Bank on  Jazz 91.9 WCLK saluting Atlanta's African American athletes.   I talked about the salutes with PNC Regional President for Georgia, Eddie Meyers.  Meyers played football for Navy and in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons in the late 1970s - early 1980s.

I ask Mr. Meyers why the focus on athletes mentioning that he was a record-setting athlete in college and played for our Atlanta Falcons.  He explains that athletes by their nature are team players. He speaks to the discipline that athletes use for success can also translate to the world of business.

I ask him about PNC Bank initiatives that support the diverse communities that make up our city. He spoke to their outreach to children providing exposure to Zoo Atlanta and explains that although they are a financial institution they recognize that children are the future.

Eddie Meyers also has a daughter Elana Meyers Taylor who is a silver medalist Olympian in bobsledding.  She will be competing in the winter Olympics taking place in Korea over the next few weeks.
