Saturday morning at 8:00 on The Local Take on WCLK I speak with Camille Ziegler, President of the Atlanta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta about their upcoming Celebration of Excellence. Ms. Ziegler explains that this year's event taking place on April 14th will celebrate "Excellence" in diverse disciplines with a focus on Justice Reform.
I ask Ms. Ziegler why this was an important focus for a women's sorority. She spoke of their "Expungement" event that took place at the end of January. The organization worked with Keith Gammage, the solicitor general for Fulton County. The event was set up to process over 400 applicants and they ended up engaging with over 1500 citizens.
Camille Ziegler goes on to share a few anecdotes of citizens who were never officially charged but still had items on their record preventing them from obtaining housing, student loans, and more.
