The Local Take Has Health Info You Can Use: New Medicare Cards

New Medicare Card 2018

Saturday on The Local Take on WCLK I talked with Dr. Renard Murray, the Consortium Administrator with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the Southeast region. Dr. Murray explains that 10,000 new members join Medicare each day as the Baby Boomer Generation ages into the program. Those new members have already received the new cards, older members will also begin to receive the new cards.

The old cards included personal information with actual social security numbers, this was no longer safe in the age of stolen identities.  Existing Medicare clients should begin looking to receive their cards in September.

Dr. Murray cautions seniors and care-givers to be aware of scams that target the elderly. You don't have to do anything to receive your new card.

We also speak about the ABC's of Medicare. These options provide individuals with an opportunity to customize their program to fit their needs.  This includes everything from dentistry to pharmaceuticals.

For more information on Medicare and Preventive services you can call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or visit MEDICARE online. Additionally you can set up your own personal account throught the My Medicare portal.
