This week on The Local Take I speak with Jeremy Green about the inspiration that became Behind The Movement. This is a benefit performance from Mission 4 Movement the non-profit foundation associated with the acclaimed Dance 411 school in Atlanta. It takes place at The Lovett School on November 18.
Jeremy Green explains that dance changed his life and has provided him with opportunities that he never imagined. Mr. Green began his dance career with lessons at the age of 18. He speaks to dance being a form of self expression.
He also speaks about the number of talented young people who can dance, but don't have the ability to pay for class. When confronted with this Jeremy Green created and executed Behind The Movement as a fundraiser. Behind The Movement is a dance showcase which trains up and coming talent and raises funds to benefit youth in the dance community.
Jeremy also explains that dance provides a benefit to mental health. Most people know that dancing is a great form of physical exercise. Jeremy shares that for him and other young people dance leads to mental health as well. Jeremy Green speaks to parents in our audience who may not think of dance as a viable career for their children.
I also speak with Kylah Searcy, a student who has benefitted from "Behind The Movement" fundraiser. She shared that "Dance is my everything." Kylah explains that dance provided an outlet for her that other activities could not. She speaks to being disciplined about academics due to the discipline she gained from dance.
