Saturday morning at 8am on The Local Take on WCLK I speak with Fair Fight Georgia's CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo. Fair Fight Georgia is an organization that started after our last contentious Gubernatorial Election between Governor-elect Brian Kemp and Abrams.
Stacey Abrams launched Fair Fight Georgia to ensure that future elections are conducted with integrity. The Georgia gubernatorial race was closely watched and considered marred by many people due to Kemp's refusal to step down as Georgia Secretary of State, whose office oversees state elections.
I spoke with Lauren Groh-Wargo about what future elections should look like in Georgia. I asked her about the weakening of election oversight due to the Robert's Court decision to remove voter protections from the Voting Rights Act.
She encourages citizens to get involved to end voter suppression in all forms. For many citizens this was the first time that they realized all votes are not counted.
Fair Fight Georgia has filed a federal lawsuit against the State of Georgia, seeking broad changes to voting procedures. The lawsuit indicates that state election officials “grossly mismanaged an election that deprived Georgia citizens, and particularly citizens of color, of their fundamental right to vote.”
From voting machines left in warehouses, to citizens waiting 4 hours to vote and polls being closed or relocated, multiple voter suppression were alleged to have been carried out by the Secretary of State's office that oversaw the election process.
