Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take I talked with Sharmen Gowens, CEO of the YWCA of Greater Atlanta about their upcoming event honoring Women of Achievement in our community. YWCA's Salute To Women of Achievement takes place on Wednesday, April 10 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.
Sharmen Gowens shares some background information on the YWCA and their mission to elimintate racism and empower women. I ask her about advocacy for women in the 21st Century when many people feel that we've come a long way. She shares with us the programming that is still needed.
She explains that the women who are honored become their own sorority and work together to support and promote YWCA's mission. The 36th Annual YWCA Salute to Women will take place on April 10th at the Marriott Marquis, I ask Ms. Gowens how will this year's event differ from those in the past. She explains that this year the event will be a dinner meaning that more people will be able to attend. She also expects that there will be more men in attendance.
Ms. Gowens speaks to some of the organization's needs inlcuded volunteers from the tech community.
