The Local Take Talks Medicare-Medicaid Open Enrollment October 15-December 7

This week on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturdays 8am) I speak with April Washington, Public Affairs Officer for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. We talk about the upcoming Open Enrollment period which runs from October 15 thru December 7.  She shares with us that everyone should review the new options especially the advantage plans. She mentions that there are over 127 plans and many at no additional cost.

Some of the advantage plans include: In Home Care, Professional Caregiver Visits, Personal Shopping programs and more.  The average Medicare premium in Georgia has dropped by 14%.

Ms. Washington also alerts us about fraudsters that focus on seniors. 1.7 million people in the state of Georgia use Medicare. They are all at risk of being scammed.  A new scam targeting seniors ask for their Medicare card to cover genetic testing. They will then use your Medicare card for fraudulent medical procedures. She advises that seniors should only take test ordered by their primary care physicians.
