The Local Take: CAU School of Business, Young African Leadership Initiative

WCLK's The Local Take has profiled members of the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) since it's inception. Saturday morning at 8am we present our final interview with the CAU Summer Mandela Fellows, Senegalese Entrepreneur Fatima Ba. We also talk with the person responsible for the program being at Clark Atlanta University-- CAU YALI Program Director Dr. Mesfin Buzuneh.

I ask Dr. Bezuneh how the program came to Clark Atlanta University and why he believes the program has such staying power as other universities have come and gone.

He shares what he hopes will come from the program and speaks about the engagement with School of Business students at CAU and the young African leaders from across the continent.

I ask him about criticism of the program being a "soft diplomacy" take over by the USA government. He explains how he feels and why soft diplomacy is needed.

The program has attracted business leaders from throughout metropolitan Atlanta. Tyler Perry Studios, United Parcel Service and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce all support and participate with the program.  For businesses interested in participating with the 2020 cohort please contact Dr. Buzeneh.

Also joining us is Dean Silvanus Udoka who took the helm of CAU Business School approximately one two years ago.  I ask him his vision for the school?  We speak about the legacy and the future, enrollment and recruitment.  Dean Udoka shares that alumni giving is not what it should be, but the school is doing a better job engaging and hopes there will be an increase.  We speak about the convergence of tech in business and updates to the curriculum to incorporate this ongoing change.

There are many programs offered by the CAU School of Business from a Teen MBA Summer program to an executive program for professionals.  We also talk about the need for a fundamental understanding of math to be a successful business school student.
