The Local Take Talks Project C. O. L. O. R. with Lillian Grace Jackson

Saturday morning on WCLK's The Local Take I spoke with Lillian Grace Jackson about her seminar series taking place Saturday afternoons between January 11th - February 15th from 3pm - 5pm at the SE Branch Atlanta Public Library.

Ms. Jackson explains that this seminar series is part of her Girls Scouts Gold Award Project, and she wanted to focus on challenges faced by African American women and others who have brown skin.

She shares that her Silver Award Project focused on self-love and she wanted to continue to speak with young ladies about hits to their confidence regarding their skin color.

She shares that she didn't know the term Colorism before trying to understand her own complicated feelings about having brown skin. She wants to impact girls 13 - 18 so that they can learn to accept their skin color despite living in a world where European beauty standards are presented as the norm.

Jackson also discusses the fact that this challenge is part of all cultures including Latinx and Asian. With hopes that this "ism" will soon go away, she desribes the topics for each week's seminar.
