The Local Take: Men's Mental Health in a Pandemic With Author Romal Tune

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take we're talking about mental health with author of "Love is an Inside Job" Romal Tune.  He is an advocate for African-American men to seek therapy and not be limited to cultural definitions of manhood. His non-profit CLERESTORY provides workshops that address mental health and they also subsidize therapy treatments.

I ask if he can make recommendations for men coping with the general stress from COVID-19.  We talk about the stigma around men asking for help. Romal speaks to men connecting virtually and speaks to a recent meet up of African American men that was met with enthusiasm from participants.  He speaks about some definitions of manhood include men "carrying it all."

He shares that men facing mental challenges need to know that "it's ok to talk about their feelings." He speaks to men being intentional and aware of their feelings.  He speaks about using digital and virtual platforms to connect and support each other.
