Brian Auger

British Hammond B3 organist/keyboardist Brian Auger has been a staple in the world of Jazz/ funk/fusion for over half a century and he's played with some of the biggest names in pop music. He was a session player for the British rock band The Yardbirds in 1965, formed a band that same year with Julie Driscoll and Rod Stewart, turned down Jimi Hendrix's managers request for Jimi to join his band(because he already had a dedicated guitarist) and even mentored many of the members of the Average White Band. But it was his work with his outfit, Brian Auger's Oblivion Express, that would captivate the ears and hearts of the masses. On the eve of the release of the six disc box on Soul Bank Music set highlighting their entire discography, Auger joined Jamal Ahmad for an extended conversation about his life and career. Selections from his catalogue can be heard on the Saturday evening edition of the nationally syndicated radio show The S.O.U.L Of Jazz, heard on Saturday nights from 6pm unitl 9pm.
