Since 1996, the London based record label BBE has become quite legendary in the world of modern music. Releasing everything from 70s jazz-funk, Brazilian soul, UK hip-hop, Detroit techno, African pop, rockabilly and many more styles, the label's musical ethos is broad and steeped in the famous Duke Ellington quote "there are only two types of music - good and bad". Albums from Roy Ayers, J Dilla, Marley Marl, Brian Jackson, along with compilations celebrating Japanese Jazz and David Bowie, are the cornerstone of this soulfully eclectic record label. Label founder and owner Peter Adarkwah touched down in Atlanta recently and was kind enough to stop by the WCLK studios to talk about his history growing up in Britain and Ghana, British club culture, the roots and future of the label and deep stories that shine a spotlight on the behind the scenes operations of running one of the most in demand independent labels in the world.

Jamal Ahmad hosts The SOUL of Jazz on WCLK Monday-Fridays 2pm-7pm and Saturdays 6pm-9pm.
