This afternoon Saturday, May 20th, the Afro Street Market is taking place at Piedmont Park beginning at 2PM. The Afro Street Market brings small business owners from throughout the African diaspora all together in one place. Reinhard Kwayisi, a partner of this enterprising event, joins us to share more information about this concept.
Kwayisi explains that they wanted to create a platform that celebrates and promotes African culture, food, and creativity. WOW Afro mentions the fictional city of Wakanda in its promotional materials. I ask Kwayisi, a native of Ghana, about the significance of the symbolism of Wakanda. He speaks to their aim to tap into that sense of pride and inspire a renewed appreciation for the African culture and heritage. He speaks about the limitless possibilities within the African diaspora.
I asked Kwayisi what are some highlights from this year’s events. He speaks about food vendors, jollof rice, fashions, music, and more. WOW Africa also has plans to take the Afro Street Market to other cities. This event is free and open to the public. If possible, please register here.
