Nic Starr the Managing Director of the New African Grove Theatre brings their production of August Wilsonl's Two Trains Running to the Marietta Theatre in the Square October 13th - 22nd.

Our favorite community theatre, Marietta Theatre in the Square, will present August Wilson’s Two Trains Running October 13 - 22. Director Nic Starr, the managing director of The New African Grove Theatre, will share his vision of this the sixth in Wilson’s ten-play series. The story takes place in the late 1960s.

I asked Starr what tackling one of the giants in Black Theatre is like, and he speaks to the honor and privilege. He speaks about the tensions in the play around the fight for civil rights. The fact is the plot of this play, which takes place in 1960, is just as relevant today in 2023.

Starr talks about gentrification that brings about the loss of property and businesses, which many in our communities fight daily. Trying to hold on to property is a real challenge when the fight is against municipalities.

I ask Starr what people can expect from his production. He mentioned that he would also be on the stage and shared that the play is entertaining and informative for multi-generational and diverse audiences. He wants everyone to come out and enjoy the intimacy that is found at the Marietta Theatre in the Square.
