The Local Take will be an honorary host and judge for the 10th Annual 2024 Family Food Fest, a Father’s Day tradition in Atlanta! The Family Food Fest is taking place on June 16th from 3 - 6 PM at the Georgia Freight Depot. This milestone year will be the first celebrated without the founder, Diane Larche. This year a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Pancreatic Cancer research.
This multi-cultural and multi-generational celebration of food and family supports Atlanta Culinary Charities, which provides exposure and scholarships for young people seeking careers in the culinary industry. Young Chefs showcased their talents at the event where local and celebrity chefs will come together to showcase their signature dishes ranging from vegan to soul food to Caribbean fare and more! Family Food Fest chef coordinator, Chef Kevin Ashford of Catered Cakesjoins us to discuss this year’s event. Chef Ashford welcome back to The Local Take.
This year’s theme is “Throwback” Family Food Fest and you are encouraging people to wear their t-shirts and aprons from years past. Chef Ashford shares that the team is moving ahead without their leader and founder Larche.
Chefs, caterers, restaurants, and fabulous home cooks can still participate by signing up at Family Food Fest. Some of the past participants and winners have gone on to appear as celebrity chefs in all types of arenas.
Chef Ashford speaks about the work of Culinary Charities throughout the year. School children are invited to neighborhood programming around arts, tech, and food.
