The economic squeeze is being felt in many ways. Costs for food, insurance, pharmaceuticals, and even energy have increased for most in our community. This has changed some behavior more people staying at home because leaving your house costs money. Georgia Power has expanded a program that benefits customers with limited income and resources. Their Income-Qualified Senior Discount offers savings of $33.50 on qualified bills each month. Danny Johnson Manager of the Energy Assist Team at Georgia Power joins us to share some information about this program.
I asked Johnson to share the eligibility requirements to receive the Income Qualified Senior Discount. It includes seniors 65 years and older, receivers of disability and supplemental social security.
Johnson also explains that several other programs allow us to save on our Georgia Power bills including Georgia Community Income Qualified Discount, HopeWorks, EASE, and more.
Although this is not his area of expertise I asked Johnson about Georgia Power’s major accomplishment this year completing Plant Vogtle the largest nuclear power plant in the United States. Johnson speaks of the excitement throughout the company about this accomplishment. The construction of Plant Vogtle started in the late 1980s. Safe, clean nuclear power has promised to reduce energy costs for our community.
