National Voter Registration Day is September 17th This non-partisan civic holiday is dedicated to celebrating our democracy and encouraging participation in this civic responsibility. The holiday created in 2012 has worked to get over 5 million Americans registered to vote. A partner organization VOTERIDERS joins us today to speak about this holiday and their work making sure voters have valid identification. This national organization assists so every voice that matters is heard at the voting booth. Randy Faigan the Georgia State Coordinator talks about the holiday and her work.
Faigin shares VOTERIDERS a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works with eligible voters to secure the necessary identification to vote. For any voter not sure about the identification needed to vote you can call their hotline at 866-ID2-VOTE (866-432-8683).
We speak about National Voter Registration Day and ways in which voters can celebrate. She recommends that voters share their excitement about our civic duty. Faigin goes on to explain that voting should be incorporated into our lives in the same way that health, faith, and education are done.
Another way to celebrate in Georgia is to check your voter registration (for other states) and your identification to make sure it is valid and not expired. Faigin shares that Voteriders not only assist in obtaining proper identification but also provide any needed financing.
Early Voting in Georgia starts October 15th - November 1st. Faigin explains that as soon as you vote, your name drops off the campaign call list. So vote early. If your organization, church, or neighborhood is interested in learning more about VOTERIDERS reach out to Randy Faigin.
