Maynard Eaton's legacy lives on in the hundreds of young journalists he trained at Clark Atlanta and Hampton University. Eaton returned to his alma mater in 2022, with his appointment as Endowed Professor of Journalism at Hampton University.

Maynard Eaton was an 8-time Emmy-Award-winning TV news reporter; national communications director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, managing editor of "SCLC Magazine", President of Eaton Media Group, and Executive Editor of Newsmakers Live/Journal and TheMaynardReport.com. Eaton provided leadership and a demonstrated record of excellence in journalism, public and media relations, political reporting and consulting, and media planning and strategy. He taught journalism at Clark Atlanta University and Hampton University. Maynard passed in 2023 and his wife Robin Eaton joins us to speak about the recent donation of his papers to Clark Atlanta University.

I asked Eaton how she was doing since her husband’s passing and she mentioned her grief and continuing the work. Eaton speaks about collecting not only his papers but also artifacts from a historical career that included not only reporting but also educating the next generation of journalists.

As she continues to gather his archive I asked her if she was surprised by anything. Eaton speaks about Maynard Eaton’s reporting on the Bahamian Independence on July 10, 1973. There is also early footage from the 1970 failed coup in Haiti. Her ultimate desire is for there to be an exhibition curated from the ephemera of his life. If you have photos, stories, videos, or any memorabilia that you feel belongs in the archives reach out to Robin Eaton via email at curator@nolaworld.org.

Eaton wants us to all remember Maynard and his absolute joy and zeal in telling stories.
