As part of our ongoing conversation on the 2025 Georgia Legislative Session, I spoke with Cathy Harmon-Christian executive director of Georgians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty about their upcoming day at the capitol on February 12th.
Harmon-Christian speaks about their desire to correct a past legislative error concerning the death penalty and citizens with mental impairment. The State of Georgia is one of the last states in our country to subject those with mental development issues to the death penalty.
House Bill 123 (HB123) provides clarity concerning the lethal force. The bill has bi-bipartisan support and the Speaker Jon Burns is backing the bill. To make sure this legislation passes, Harmon-Christian is asking that listeners contact your House Representative and State Senator and let them know you support HB123.
Harmon-Christian invites us to join with Georgians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty on Wednesday, February 12th at 8AM. We will meet across the street from the capitol at Trinity United Methodist Church 265 Washington St.
