Jazz at Lincoln Center PRESENTS brings the soul of New Orleans and the spirit of Mardi Gras to the world with The New Orleans Songbook presented at the Rialto Theatre on March 8th. The group is led by pianist Luther S. Allison and vocalists Quiana Lynell and Milton Suggs. The group will immerse the audience into the vibrancy of the Crescent City with works from Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong and Ellis Marsalis. Vocalist Milton Suggs speaks with us about their tour.
I asked Suggs how he came to be a part of The New Orleans Songbook and who spoke about being involved with performances at The Lincoln Center and when they put the tour together he was happy to join his colleagues.
Suggs explains that the tour is like bringing a little bit of Mardi Gras to each city where they perform. Folks should expect a great time with wonderful music. He speaks about the music of just a few New Orleans greats. Suggs closed us out with a duet Cheek to Cheek performed by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.
