After visiting Lisbon and feeling like it was home, Jacinta Williams has a move date in June 2025 to become a resident of Portugal.

Portugal is a popular landing point for Americans who consider moving to Europe. Most Americans in Portugal live in Lisbon. Some of the reasons include a pleasant climate with mild winters and sunny summers makes it a year-round haven if you don’t enjoy harsh winters. The cost of living in Lisbon is relatively affordable compared to other major European cities. Lisbon has a rich heritage that includes a great art scene, walkable communities, and an inviting feel for expats. Jacinta Williams has a move date of June 25, 2025, to make Lisbon her home.

I asked Williams how and why she decided to leave the USA and why did she choose Portugal. She explains that this journey began three years ago in September of 2022 when she visit Lisbon for the first time. She says it almost immediately felt like home.

When asked about the steps she took to make the decision, Williams explains that she spoke with friends who had made the move to Lisbon about their experiences. She also researched social media groups. It was on social media that she learned how to open a bank account which was necessary for her establishing residency.

As a consultant in the field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Williams noticed that more and more of her clients were in Europe and Asia. She was taking long flights for work with fewer contracts available from US-based clients. By moving to Lisbon, her travel time to reach clients is almost cut in half. She advises others who are considering the move that you may “never feel ready” but to do it anyway.

Williams says you can keep up with her @CintaJade on social media platforms.
