One adage that too often rings true is that CAREGIVERS often pass before the person they are caring for. Community Whole Health Clinic, which opened a non-profit clinic at Emory Hillandale this year, will be on hand at CAREGIVERS Relax to offer medical screenings to our participants. Founder Cashmere Miller joins us to speak about the clinic and screening being offered. CAREGIVERS Relax takes place on Thursday, August 14th at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts & Community Center from 11AM - 2PM.
I asked Miller what caregivers can do to make sure they are keeping their health in check. She speaks about regularly checking your blood pressure. She mentions even using the machines often found at local grocery stores. Also, in many counties, you can receive a blood pressure check at your local fire station. Miller also says that taking walks outside and getting sunlight are good for making sure you have Vitamin D and for stress management.
Miller explains that caregivers can recognize the signs of burnout if they feel “road rage” and they aren’t driving. She speaks about practicing mindfulness. Miller, who became a caregiver to her mother while raising four children with her husband, speaks about becoming organized, writing things down, and asking the question “what can I do that will be the most healthy” decision.
The Community Whole Health Clinic will provide screenings for participants, including Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, Blood Sugar, and more.
