Dr. Kimberley Bugg, Director of the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library, joins us today to speak about its significance, their initiatives, and an overview of the services it offers to students, faculty, and the community.

Dr. Bugg explains that the significance of the Woodruff Library, which started in 1982, is one of the largest consortia of HBCU libraries. It serves Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Spelman College. In 2004, the Library was restructured as an independent 501(c)(3) to better focus on the teaching, learning, and research priorities of the member institution.

She also shares that a new exhibition hall, entitled the Dr. Virginia Lacy Jones Hall, has opened.

Named for the inaugural director and a trailblazer in library science. The exhibition hall, which had its ribbon-cutting last year, is set to be a place of knowledge sharing, community and cultural events, along with academic celebrations. Dr. Bugg also speaks about the Gaming Lab, Data Visual Library, and the Bloomberg Finance Lab.

I asked Dr. Bugg if she could share her career path and why she chose library sciences. She says that most librarians will tell you that they grew up loving libraries. She also shares that she had an opportunity to work at the Library of Congress under the leadership of Dr. Carla Hayden

The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library should be considered a special place in our community. Dr. Bugg emphasizes that they are not just about books.
