The King Center will host a week of events in support of the King Holiday Weekend beginning January 12th - January 19th.

The King Center for Non-Violent Social Change was founded by Coretta Scott King in 1968. The King Center is the official living memorial and nonprofit organization committed to educating the world on the life, legacy, and teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There will be a week of events starting on Monday, January 12th, through Monday, January 16th. For more information, please visit The King Center website.

On Thursday, January 15th, at the College Football Hall of Fame, the documentary Nothing to See Here: WATTS will be screened. The movie documents an unprecedented social experiment in Los Angeles in which community residents, youth, mothers, faith leaders, AND individuals connected to gang sets came together as co-creators, filmmakers, storytellers, and problem-solvers. This collaborative effort—rooted in truth-telling, healing, and nonviolence—demonstrates what Dr. King meant when he said: “People fail to get along because they don’t know each other.” Additionally, there will be a post-film conversation moderated by Tip “T. I.” Harris.

The 2026 Beloved Community Global Summit, including a Youth Summit, takes place at the Center for Civil and Human Rights and includes a bevy of international and local leaders who will discuss ways in which we can become a Beloved Community rooted in compassion, justice, and non-violence. On Saturday, January 17th, the annual Beloved Community Awards Gala at the downtown Hyatt will honor Viola Davis, Billie Eilish, Robert Smith, and the Lebron James Family Foundation, to name a few.

Dr. Vonnetta West with the King Center speaks about the upcoming week of events. She encourages family, youth, non-profits, and corporate leaders join this week of events. We speak about the “Beloved Community” being a place of compassion, justice, and non-violence, and why it has been so difficult for us to reach this goal.

West speaks about how she came to join the King Center and learned in-depth about non-violent leadership and training. She also speaks about the work that the Center does throughout the year, including a non-violent master class and work with teens and young people.
